Maya Abdominal Massage

As a natural healing modality, the aim of the Arvigo Techniques is to help restore the body to its natural balance.

These techniques are practiced and taught by Dr. Rosita Arvigo, D.N. Dr. Arvigo has been studying and teaching Mayan medicine for thirty years. She apprenticed for ten years with Don Elijio Panti, a Maya Shaman of Central America (he lived to be 103).

The Maya Abdominal Massage is a part of Maya Medicine that focuses on the health of the pelvic and abdominal organs. The work is best known for the correction of the prolapsed, fallen, or tilted uterus and for the prevention and treatment of benign prostate enlargement in men.

The massage is based on the belief that if this area is out of balance, so is the person. Many female troubles are caused by weakened ligaments and muscles that allow the uterus to fall downward, forward, backward or to either side. Modern medicine often ignores this problem as this is considered normal by many physicians. Yet many physical and emotional concerns can be relieved with these simple, noninvasive massage techniques.

Men benefit greatly from Maya Abdominal Massage because it helps bring a full blood supply to the prostate. Often men report that they can feel a distinct difference in blood flow after a treatment. Not only does the massage relieve prostate swelling, but it helps alleviate varicose veins, some impotency problems and the need to urinate frequently.

Imbalances in these areas begins in many ways: falls that impact the lower back, car accidents, pregnancy and labor, carrying heavy burdens, running on cement surfaces, chronic constipation, high-impact dancing, aerobics, horseback riding, gymnastics, other sports activity, pressure from above caused by sagging intestines, weak pelvic floor muscles and surgery. Even without the above problems time and gravity can have an affect.

Dr. Arvigo has authored several books, including:

SPIRITUAL BATHING: Healing Rituals & Traditions from Around the World; with Nadine Epstein (Ten Speed Press, 2003)
