What makes the difference in skin care products?

With all the choices in skin and body care products that are available on the market today, how do you know you are getting the best products for your money and your health? What characteristics should you look for in skin and body care products? Do you want to be sure you are using the purest and most beneficial products available? How do you keep from wasting money trying one line of products after another and having them end up unused in the bathroom cabinets?

Competition is keen in the skin and body care industry. Glowing claims are seen everywhere. It’s very hard to know what products are best for you. Let’s look at some of the factors to consider when purchasing skin and body care products.

-- What are the ingredients? If you are an animal lover, you might want to look for products that do not contain animal products or by-products, or are tested on animals. Would you be better satisfied with products that are botanically based and tested on consenting adults?

-- Have the products been tested by a dermatologist? You want to be aware of the difference in the endorsements “dermatologist approved,” “dermatologist recommended,” and “dermatologist tested.” Dermatologist “approved” or “recommended” labels often mean that the dermatologist has allowed his or her name to be used in publicity for a product, a far cry from actually being tested in a lab by a dermatologist.

-- Has dye or fragrance been added to the products or does the fragrance come from natural botanical sources used in the formulation of the products?

-- Are the products pH correct? pH “correctness” is important to maintain balance of the acid mantle which protects the body from bacteria and prevents moisture loss.

-- Are the products hypoallergenic and safe to use?

-- Do the products contain mineral oil which can clog pores and prevent the skin from guarding us against heat, light, microbes, etc? Wouldn’t you prefer products with natural oils that are readily absorbed into the skin and moisturize and condition thus enhancing the normal protective and beneficial skin functions?

Asking yourself these questions and paying attention to these factors in your skin and body care regimen can make a huge difference when it comes to hydrating and protecting your skin and combating the visual signs of aging. The use of products that are pure, safe, and beneficial to your skin can give dramatic results.
